Dear Texas,

Why are you so darn hot already?

I let that keep me from riding my bike for a week.  We ventured out last night at 8 p.m. for a 5.7 mile ride and it was bearable.

Heat and I are not friends.  For as far back as I an remember if I overheat I am rewarded with a migraine.  So far while riding my bike I have only had one headache that I can attribute to over heating.  One can hope that a tolerance can be built to the heat.  I have also been looking at cooling vests.  That may be a viable option.

I have been trying to retrain my personal habits lately.  The first item I am working on is planning, cooking and cleaning up for dinner every night.  I have done so for one week now.  Yeah me.  There are also things that YOU KNOW if you just did them daily they would be so much easier but my brain always clings to procratination.  Why, why, why.  :)

I purchased a book on how to cure this.  I will let you know the lessons I learn as I go.  First I have to plug my nook in because the battery is dead... Point made.

I am grateful,

Hey, it is Thursday!

Staying busy makes the week fly by.  The below chart is a high level estimation of where my time is spent.  I may need to ponder if the 13% of my day spent watching tv and playing on my computer makes me happy.  If TV and putzing around on computer does, no change required.   May have to watch another 100 hours of tv to make that decision...

Health...

I take my health for granted, sometimes.  The last few months have been quite a trip.  I am still in discovery mode with several tests performed and now enlisting another practice to review the results for a second opinion.  Hmm wait, for it to be a second opinion I need the first physician to provide his.  Still waiting on his diagnosis.

So while I fell off the map from February through June I had to take some time off to adjust my attitude.  No one wants to listen to anothers problems.  I have went through several emotions.  Fear, denial, acceptance (even though I have not received a diagnosis to date) and lastly, "Whatever is wrong, you do not define me, bring it."

Thank you to my husband and all the friends who have been kind enough to put up with me.  :)  I was pretty miserable for a few months and was feeling quite sorry for myself.

So in the spirit of remaining active and taking care of ourselves Tracy and I purchased bicycles the end of May.  I cannot run anymore so the next two options are cycling or swimming.  I still have not totally ruled out swimming; however, cycling is where my focus is for now.  We try to ride 4-6 times a week.  It is so much fun.  I am even handling the heat fairly well.

Riding a bike is so much easier on the body than running!

I am Grateful.

Inspiration sometimes comes in familiar packages

Today while speaking with a friend, I decided to recommit to weight loss.  I am ready.  So I signed up for 3 months of WW Online.  I like their program and I have been successful in the past while using their program.  I arrived at a good weight and size last year and slowly I allowed 12 pounds to creek back on.  I have not been happy about the gain and today I committed to taking it back off.

I suggested to a group of ladies that we find ways to reward ourselves for making progress on whatever goals we have set for ourselves.

I have completed day one and still have points left, yeah me!

I am grateful.

Saturday was cold.... and the weekend was good

Saturday we got up at 4:30 a.m. showered, dressed in about 5 layers to head downtown to Fair Park for the Hot Chocolate 5k.

We were going to take the train; however, at the last minute we decided to drive.  This worked out well as we were there early enough to obtain prime parking.

The temperature was around 27 degress at race start.  My friend who was running the 15k downgraded to the 5 k.  The race officials were recommending that anyone over a 12 minute mile should run the 5k.

Fun was had by all.  I confirmed that my sciatica us still around.  I ended up walking the 5k which is all well and good.  3.1 miles walking is still moving and good for me.  The chocolate at the end of the race was fabulous.  They served melted chocolate with marshmallow, rice krispie treat, banana, apple, and pretzels.  Delish!

Saturday night Tracy and I enjoyed dinner with friends and Sunday was the normal routine: laundry, dishes, and dinner.

I am grateful.

Hot Chocolate 5k

It is 9:50 p.m. and I really need to be turning in.  Getting up at old cold-dark thirty to head to Fair Park for a 7:30 a.m. 5 k race.

I think I am mostly going for the Ghiardelli Chocolate...

All joking aside a friend is running the 15k, going to cheer her on and the proceeds support the Ronald McDonald House.  It is a win all the way around.

Grateful,
B

Is it really February?

Where does time go?  So much for reclaiming my time.  I was sick most of January and work had some crazy deadlines.  I blinked and it is February.  Go ahead, ask me.  Did I fill in one page of my "Reclaiming my time" project book or focus on fitness in January.  Sigh, NO.  But this weekend I am going to focus.  Pick one of my projects and begin.

Stay tuned.

2012, The beginning of a new year.

As 2012 begain, I considered my next project.  In typical BG fashion I began several different projects all at the same time.  In 2011 I made one goal to start and finish one thing.  Now I know that does not sound very ambitious; however, I chose to participate in the Team in Training (TNT) program.  The TNT program trains you to complete an endurance event and in return you raise money to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  The good news is I succeeded in my goal and had a great time doing it!

Looking forward to 2012, I ponder how I want to spend my time.  So I began searching for projects that would help me decide and journal a transformation from work, eat, sleep to a rich and fulfilling life!  It was my lucky day as I found a scrapbook class called reclaiming my time at Big Picture Scrapbooking.  How lucky am I to find what I am looking for in a scrapbook format!
Below is the cover page for my journal, reclaiming my time.

In 2012 I also want to continue to focus on health and wellness.  Therefore, I am going to use Cathy Zielske's Move More, Eat Well movement to inspire me.

It is going to be a fabulous year.

I am grateful!

It has been a while...

It has been a while since I have posted.  So let me try to pick up where I left off and summarize til we catch up to 2012.

June 2011 I completed the 1/2 marathon in Alaska.  What an exhilarating accomplishment and I am grateful to each and every person who contributed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

After returning home, work became the focus as well as trying to decide when to take medical leave to address the issues found during training for the 1/2 marathon.  It was decided to take the leave Nov 21st through Dec 18th.  Let me just say that I felt that time flew by during that 6 weeks.

Dec 14th through 24th Tracy and I had a vacation.  I can take it easy and relax at home or in new places, right?  That is what I thought, anyhow... Was completely worn out when we returend home.  But how is that any different from a vacation even when you are not recovering from surgery?

We had a great time.  The first part of vacation was for T.  He wanted to play the golf courses at The Doral Resort in Miami, FL home of the Blue Monster.

I opted to relax and read.  I did join him on the course as an observer and camera girl.

The next leg of our trip was a cruise with our family.  I was looking forward to spending time with family and just relaxing some more.  Overall it was a fabulous ending to 2011.  I am healthy and we spent quality time together.

I am grateful!
