Wow. It feels as if we were just celebrating the new year yesterday. This weekend was very productive but gone too soon, also. I sit here writing and peaking down at the corner of my screen at the time, 10:00 p.m., and think I should turn in; however, I am not ready for another work week.

At least it was a productive weekend. We finished a home few home improvement projects. We installed crown moulding, purchased some furniture, and painted the front interior door. Now to clean and put all the tools away tomorrow night. Furniture will be delivered on Friday.

Next we plan to install french doors on my craft room, install new lighting in half of house and replace all the shiny brass door knobs and handles.

We have the remodel fever...

Fun times.

I am grateful,
Yikes, Need a few cards to send to friends and loved ones.
I created the below card by spritzing Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade, Milled Lavender, Seedless Preserves, and Shaded Lilac.
The Stamp set is unknown, but I think I purchased it from Hobby Lobby.
Normally I take the class and do not make anything while the class is active. Ok, I admit it am a lurker...
So this time I am trying to do a few cards from the lessons I am learning from Clean & Simple Card Making 2. The talented artists that teach this class are far more meticulous than I am. I have no patience, lol.

Below is a card I created that is a mix of inspiration from the 14 days of class.

It was not my intention to bail on the morning walk but as it turns out it was a good thing. If I had went I would have held my honey back from achieving his full potential. He ran the race at a little over a 9 minute mile! Great job, Tracy! So very proud of you.
Maybe because I try to form too many at once. I enjoy doing so many things and I allow myself a lot of down time where I could be doing other things. Prioritization needs work in 2013. :)

So I am going to try something new. I have decided I want to play in my craft room more in 2013 and use the supplies I have spend the last 10 years accumulating. (So I can buy more of course!)

While surfing google reader I viewed a video from Vivian on her contadina k blog. She used salt to crate an organic pattern in the inks on her page. Who doesn't love a technique that does not require I buy anything new, I have salt! Off I go to play.

The following are the results. I used water color paper, water, Tim Holtz Copper distress stain and Copper paint and more distress inks in scattered twig and scattered straw. One photo is with the flash to show the metallic shimmer. The other is without to try and capture how rich the earth tones are.

Thank you Vivian for the inspiration.

I am grateful,

I let that keep me from riding my bike for a week. We ventured out last night at 8 p.m. for a 5.7 mile ride and it was bearable.

Heat and I are not friends. For as far back as I an remember if I overheat I am rewarded with a migraine. So far while riding my bike I have only had one headache that I can attribute to over heating. One can hope that a tolerance can be built to the heat. I have also been looking at cooling vests. That may be a viable option.

I have been trying to retrain my personal habits lately. The first item I am working on is planning, cooking and cleaning up for dinner every night. I have done so for one week now. Yeah me. There are also things that YOU KNOW if you just did them daily they would be so much easier but my brain always clings to procratination. Why, why, why. :)

I purchased a book on how to cure this. I will let you know the lessons I learn as I go. First I have to plug my nook in because the battery is dead... Point made.

I am grateful,
The below chart is a high level estimation of where my time is spent. I may need to ponder if the 13% of my day spent watching tv and playing on my computer makes me happy. If TV and putzing around on computer does, no change required. May have to watch another 100 hours of tv to make that decision...
The last few months have been quite a trip. I am still in discovery mode with several tests performed and now enlisting another practice to review the results for a second opinion. Hmm wait, for it to be a second opinion I need the first physician to provide his. Still waiting on his diagnosis.

So while I fell off the map from February through June I had to take some time off to adjust my attitude. No one wants to listen to anothers problems. I have went through several emotions. Fear, denial, acceptance (even though I have not received a diagnosis to date) and lastly, "Whatever is wrong, you do not define me, bring it."

Thank you to my husband and all the friends who have been kind enough to put up with me. :) I was pretty miserable for a few months and was feeling quite sorry for myself.

So in the spirit of remaining active and taking care of ourselves Tracy and I purchased bicycles the end of May. I cannot run anymore so the next two options are cycling or swimming. I still have not totally ruled out swimming; however, cycling is where my focus is for now. We try to ride 4-6 times a week. It is so much fun. I am even handling the heat fairly well.

Riding a bike is so much easier on the body than running!

I am Grateful.
I am ready. So I signed up for 3 months of WW Online. I like their program and I have been successful in the past while using their program. I arrived at a good weight and size last year and slowly I allowed 12 pounds to creek back on. I have not been happy about the gain and today I committed to taking it back off.

I suggested to a group of ladies that we find ways to reward ourselves for making progress on whatever goals we have set for ourselves.

I have completed day one and still have points left, yeah me!

We were going to take the train; however, at the last minute we decided to drive. This worked out well as we were there early enough to obtain prime parking.

The temperature was around 27 degress at race start. My friend who was running the 15k downgraded to the 5 k. The race officials were recommending that anyone over a 12 minute mile should run the 5k.

Fun was had by all. I confirmed that my sciatica us still around. I ended up walking the 5k which is all well and good. 3.1 miles walking is still moving and good for me. The chocolate at the end of the race was fabulous. They served melted chocolate with marshmallow, rice krispie treat, banana, apple, and pretzels. Delish!

Saturday night Tracy and I enjoyed dinner with friends and Sunday was the normal routine: laundry, dishes, and dinner.

Getting up at old cold-dark thirty to head to Fair Park for a 7:30 a.m. 5 k race.

I think I am mostly going for the Ghiardelli Chocolate...

All joking aside a friend is running the 15k, going to cheer her on and the proceeds support the Ronald McDonald House. It is a win all the way around.

Grateful,
So much for reclaiming my time. I was sick most of January and work had some crazy deadlines. I blinked and it is February. Go ahead, ask me. Did I fill in one page of my "Reclaiming my time" project book or focus on fitness in January. Sigh, NO. But this weekend I am going to focus. Pick one of my projects and begin.

Stay tuned.Deliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928111678445938237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6939289570641950037.post-56339480129838258732012-01-15T14:49:00.000-08:002012-01-15T14:52:49.572-08:002012, The beginning of a new year.As 2012 begain, I considered my next project. In typical BG fashion I began several different projects all at the same time. In 2011 I made one goal to start and finish one thing. Now I know that does not sound very ambitious; however, I chose to participate in the Team in Training (TNT) program. The TNT program trains you to complete an endurance event and in return you raise money to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The good news is I succeeded in my goal and had a great time doing it!

Looking forward to 2012, I ponder how I want to spend my time. So I began searching for projects that would help me decide and journal a transformation from work, eat, sleep to a rich and fulfilling life! It was my lucky day as I found a scrapbook class called reclaiming my time at Big Picture Scrapbooking. How lucky am I to find what I am looking for in a scrapbook format!
Below is the cover page for my journal, reclaiming my time.

In 2012 I also want to continue to focus on health and wellness. Therefore, I am going to use Cathy Zielske's Move More, Eat Well movement to inspire me.

It is going to be a fabulous year.

So let me try to pick up where I left off and summarize til we catch up to 2012.

June 2011 I completed the 1/2 marathon in Alaska. What an exhilarating accomplishment and I am grateful to each and every person who contributed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

After returning home, work became the focus as well as trying to decide when to take medical leave to address the issues found during training for the 1/2 marathon. It was decided to take the leave Nov 21st through Dec 18th. Let me just say that I felt that time flew by during that 6 weeks.

Dec 14th through 24th Tracy and I had a vacation. I can take it easy and relax at home or in new places, right? That is what I thought, anyhow... Was completely worn out when we returend home. But how is that any different from a vacation even when you are not recovering from surgery?

We had a great time. The first part of vacation was for T. He wanted to play the golf courses at The Doral Resort in Miami, FL home of the Blue Monster.

The next leg of our trip was a cruise with our family. I was looking forward to spending time with family and just relaxing some more. Overall it was a fabulous ending to 2011. I am healthy and we spent quality time together.

I am not sure how successful I was at not waking the husband as I did not gather my running gear the night before so I was using the flashlight on my phone to go in and out of the bed room. <sorry honey, will do better next week> Off to McKinney, I go. Mentally saying 7 miles walking or running is still 7 miles, Go B, go!

This morning the training calendar said 7 miles. So here we have it:

For those of you who have never been a part of a Team In Training event each Saturday morning we talk about our fundraising, we cheer the folks who had an awesome week, share tips and then there is a mission moment. Mission moments are reminders of why we are participating in Team In Training.

Today a mother shared with us her passion for finding a cure for leukemia. She shared with us about her son and her family. What a brave little boy who fought and unfortunately did not win the leukemia battle. I cannot begin to imagine how this impacts a family. She shared with us how they honor his life by continuing to help raise awareness and funds to find a cure for blood cancers so, some day, no other families will have to go through what they did. Tears are not uncommon on Saturday morning and today was no different.

If you know someone who has battled these cancers and you can spare even 1 dollar please honor them by contributing to the cause. You may do so one of two ways:

Click the "Donate Now" link on the right hand column of this blog or you may make a check out to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and email me at Brenda75035@gmail.com for the mailing address.

In addition, if my conversion from couch potato to enrollee and training for an endurance event has inspired you to get involved. Please email me or post a comment to the blog. I can tell you how to become a participant in the Team In Training program. It is a WIN/WIN experience! My life has been blessed in so many ways by participating in such an amazing program.

Jogging. Last night I dropped back to 3 miles as I missed Monday night. Tonight I will tackle the 5 mile jog.

You may have noticed I changed my terminology to jogging rather than running. I think jogging more accurately describes my progress at this time. I had to slow it down a bit so I could run for longer periods of time at once. It makes for a much nicer story in the mind to feel like your stamina is steadily improving.

Fund raising is going well. I have an event on April 11th that should help get me one mid size step closer to the goal. Many thanks to all of you have contributed! I really appreciate the support! If everyone on FB that is listed as a friend would donate $1.00 I would make my goal. So what do you think, can you spare $1.00 to help find a cure for blood cancer and provide much needed care for those that need help?

I hope everyone is having a great day! Looking forward to trying a new 5 mile run route tonight. I hope TX weather holds on and there is no rain!

I am grateful,
The sun was shining, a nice breeze was blowing, and the temperature was perfect, perfecting for the team training. I was very tired this morning but I got out there anyway and enjoyed spring in Texas because before tooo long it will be gone.

My training plan said 5 miles but I was the only one there Saturday on the 5 mile route so I joined the 7 mile group. Why not, right? Next week I will be there, anyway. I figured I might as well move on up!

I did not jog nearly as much as I would have liked but I had not stayed hydrated the week before while I was traveling and was very tired. This was my wake up call. FOCUS! I got out there and put in the time and at the end of the day that is the mindset needed to finish the race in June, go me!

This week I am in town and will be able to focus more on the training and make sure I stay hydrated and eat right. San Francisco is one of my favorite cities and has amazing food! I ended up out with co workers/friends having fun rather than taking care of business. :) Back to focusing on the task at hand.

Here is to a great week of training this week!

Til next time. I am grateful,
The weather is beautiful. I would love for time to stand still and the beautiful spring weather stay for a while.

Tuesday and Saturday team run's are going great! Now that the weather is warmer more folks are coming out and participating. I on the other hand do not care for the warmer weather and am concerned about my ability to tolerate it when the temperatures start rising. Saturday morning was good but I had a mild headache after the run. We will see. Pushing forward and taking each challenge as it is presented to me. Stopping is not an option.

The physical therapy is awesome and I am really feeling a difference in my runs due to the strengthening of the core muscles and stretching, stretching, stretching. My hope is that after the race in June I can try going off the Lyrica and see if I still experience the nerve pain. The PT has experienced this same issue and has for the most part controlled it and relieved the pressure by focussed exercise and stretching. I am hopeful.

Next Saturday is the Pot Of Gold drawing if you haven't donated please consider doing so before next Friday! We have around $550 dollars in gift cards calling someone's name!
After a thorough examination with a scheduled follow up, she sent me packing with a scrip for Lyrica (the drug used to treat fibromialgia). There was an immediate change in my sciatic nerve pain. For the most part it went away!

So I had a wonderful week of training this week. Tracy and I did 3 miles on Thursday night and then on Saturday morning (drumroll please) I for the first time jog/walked 5 miles. My time was pretty good for a beginner, 15.5 minute miles.

On the drive home I called Tracy and celebrated the accomplishment. I was so proud and happy with myself. Friday night I will admit to feeling mild anxiety about completing 5 miles. I had been struggling with training and worried about not being able to push myself to move faster because my leg would go numb after about 10 minutes. Now, I feel like I can push to improve weekly and keep up with the training schedule.

So that is the weekly recap... Saturday night once I settled down and joined a dear friend for her birthday celebration at Pete's Dueling Piano Bar I COULD NOT MOVE without groaning, lol. Now I know what normal running aches feel like.

All is well and I am grateful,
Thank you, June, for the referal. I am anxious to hear a second opinion and I am hopeful.

I went to team training tonight with every intent of running; however, thanks to the coach I walked which means I saved myself some agony tonight. It was such a beautiful night, light breeze, 57 degrees. I love this time of year in Texas.

Sleep well everyone, I am looking forward to a new day with a different outcome tomorrow.
So off I go to the ortho that I visited back in 2007 to ask what can be done and why the nerve is acting up again.

Here is the part I did not want to hear, "your piriformis muscle is pinching the sciatic nerve and you cannot run anymore". That was about the extent of the conversation he said that he has tried surgery and there is no fixing this. I am hard headed and want to speak with someone who will consult with me rather than emphatically state, some people are not meant to run and you are one of them.

I am very upset needless to say. I start physical therapy next Tuesday and am in a state of indecision and confusion. After the visit with the ortho I went to an urgent clinic to ask for some anti-inflamatory meds. So far they are helping a bit. I am also stretching the piriformis as much as I can to address the pain.

I did not run tonight, I am on the fence about tomorrow. Decisions, decisions, sigh.

I am grateful,
BrendaDeliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928111678445938237noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6939289570641950037.post-39246609512277390592011-02-22T08:11:00.000-08:002011-02-22T08:11:51.536-08:00Monday NightLast night I visited Deven Reid, Licensed Massage Therapist Extraordinaire! She works at Stonebriar Spa and is a life saver. I am having issues with my hamstring and sciatic nerve again which is very untimely considering I need to be running 4-5 times a week. GRRR.

I may ask my ortho to do another injection to relieve the swelling and pain. I do not need the pain jacking with my training. I have enough challenges without sciatic pain being one of them.

I ran 1.7 miles last night. :( I did shave a minute off my time even with gimping. I will take progress any way I can get it.

I am grateful,
